What a whirlwind! The end of last week spilled over into the weekend as the KKDL team headed to Dwell on Design in Los Angeles. As an official Trendspotter for Silestone, we also collaborated with ASID and Dwell for various speaking panels and activities that kept us constantly on-the-go. Now that we’ve had a minute to take in all in, we wanted to share our trip and experiences with you!

Last Wednesday, we packed our bags and headed down to America’s Largest Design Conference. We stayed in Silver Lake, just 10- minutes north of the Convention Center, in a darling mid-century modern house with beautiful views of downtown from the porch.

We kicked Thursday off with a quick photo and then headed to the Pinterest Pavilion where we put together our life-size winning Pinterest board- the gray frame is 5′x5′! Inspired by our own KKDL colors, we made fabrics and paints come to life with Sunbrella and Sherwin-Williams {who sponsored the competition} along with a few other favorite tile and rug samples. We love our final look…

In addition to all the exhibits at Dwell on Design, there were a couple other places we were dying to see. We headed to the LA Mart, HD Buttercup and Natural Curiosities–between lighting, furniture, art and accessories, we definitely got our fill to round out the day.

By Friday, we were really off and running– it was by far our busiest day! My first speaking panel was for the ASID Emerging Professionals at GOPRO/LA. After an hour, the EPs were able to break out in groups and spend time with each speaker, ask questions and get valuable information on how to break into the industry. Such a great experience! Then it was off to Trendspot with Cosentino! The newest Silestone solid surface was finally revealed and on display–and you know how much we love our Silestone! The Nebula series comes in five colors and we can’t wait to get the samples. We walked the floor in search of new products and innovative designs and came home with some new favorites: Poggen Pohl’s kitchen collaboration with celebrity chef Eric Ripert was perfection {and it even had Silestone’s Zeus white counter tops!}; Kohler’s Sensate Touchless kitchen faucet; Brizo’s faucets for stand-alone tubs; Sunbrella’s fun and colorful outdoor fabric… just to name a few!

Next up: Livable Design! Erin Scherer from Eskaton and I were interviewed by Dwell’s Kelly Sanchez on the Sustainable Design Stage about the importance of having a space where everyone can use and enjoy it, whether you’re 3 or 103- and how to make it stylish too! A quick lunch break was much-needed. so we regrouped and headed to the Business of Design Stage for our Social Media panel with Dwell’s Associate Editor, Diana Budds. It was a packed house- everybody wave {see below}! Immediately following that, the Dwell bookstore was open for business as I signed copies of  Home Decor: A Sunset Design Guide. Whew! Is it 5 o’clock yet?!

Look who we saw on the floor–Jeff Lewis and team–and don’t worry, we invited him to Northern California!

A little more trendspotting and then we headed our separate ways for the evening. Part of our team attended Celebration- the ASID Design Awards, while the balance headed to the nearby French restaurant, Figaro Bistrot. After an amazing dinner, team KKDL drove up the hill to Griffith Park Observatory. We saw the Fulcrum Pendant and the Telsa Coil in action and had a stunning view of LA. After such a beautiful summer evening, it was time to call it a night!

We couldn’t have been more excited for Saturday! We met back up with Cosentino and our fabulous trendspotting friends, Julia Buckingham Edelmann and Abbe Fenimore, for a private tour of the House of Rock in Santa Monica.

The 11,000 sq ft party mansion boasts designer rooms and a killer recording studio on the top floor. We could’ve played all day–see what design elements you respond to below!

A relaxing evening on Saturday rounded out the weekend before we hit the road on Sunday. A huge thank you to ASID, Dwell and Cosentino for such a great trip! We had an amazing time and unforgettable memories. For more photos and fun, check out our interactive Silestone Trendpotter Pinterest board!
